Documentary wedding photography

I will not ask you to look at me once all day.

No posed group after posed group, no shot list, no hour of your wedding spent standing in a field. I photograph what actually happens, and you get a day you remember rather than a day you performed.

How I work

The best photographs of your wedding are the ones nobody arranged.

I shoot documentary, which means I spend the day close to what is happening and largely out of the way of it. You will get a handful of family groups because your mother will want them, done properly in fifteen minutes rather than an hour. Everything else is simply the day as it went.

What I do

Three kinds of day

Twenty weddings a year, no more. It is the only way I can give each one the editing time it needs.

A couple exchanging vows under a timber arch in a hinterland garden

Full day

From getting ready to the middle of the dancing. Around eleven hours and about six hundred finished photographs.

A small wedding gathering on a Brisbane rooftop at golden hour

Small weddings

Registry offices, elopements, thirty people in a pub garden. Half days and short days, priced properly rather than as an afterthought.

An engaged couple walking on a hinterland hilltop at golden hour

Before the day

An hour somewhere you actually like, mostly so you get used to me being there. Included with full-day bookings.

Recent work

Twelve months, six weddings

Shown as they were delivered, without the greatest-hits editing that makes every photographer’s portfolio look identical.

A bride having her hair finished on the morning of the wedding

Morning

Before anyone is nervous.

A close moment during the exchange of vows

Vows

The bit that matters.

A couple walking through a shower of confetti

Confetti

Twelve seconds, one chance.

Guests reacting warmly during a reception speech

Speeches

Watching the room, not the speaker.

A couple dancing on a timber verandah under string lights

Dancing

Available light, always.

A couple on a Stradbroke Island beach at golden hour

Ten minutes out

The only bit I arrange.

Written after the gallery arrived

I did not notice her working. Then six hundred photographs arrived and half of them were moments I had no idea happened, which is somehow the whole point.

Ellie & Marcus H., MOUNT TAMBORINE

Hinterland wedding, full day

We are both deeply awkward in front of a camera and we said so. The answer was: good, I will not point one at you. She meant it.

Priya & Tom R., SOUTH BANK

City wedding, small weddings package

The full price was on the website before we enquired. After two other photographers who wanted a call before telling us anything, that alone got her the booking.

Sofia & Dan K., NORTH STRADBROKE ISLAND

Beach wedding, full day

Twenty weddings a year. Check your date before you fall in love with it.
