FAQ

The questions worth asking before you commit to a rebuild

Common questions

Can you really fix a leaking shower without removing tiles?

In about four out of five cases, yes. The leak is nearly always at the grout, the corner junctions or the waste and tap penetrations, not through the middle of a tile. We grind the grout out, seal the substrate through the joints, re-grout in epoxy and re-detail the junctions. Three days, and it carries a ten-year warranty.

How do I know if it's the shower or the plumbing?

A plumbing leak is usually constant and shows up whether or not anyone has showered. A waterproofing failure is intermittent and tracks with use. We check both at the inspection with moisture readings and a flood test, because quoting a shower seal when the real problem is a cracked waste line would waste your money.

What does a bathroom renovation cost in Brisbane?

$24,000 to $30,000 for a same-layout renovation on a standard 6m² bathroom, $32,000 to $44,000 if the layout changes, and $48,000 and up for stone, custom joinery and fully tiled finishes. That includes waterproofing, tiling, plumbing, electrical and the compliance certificates.

Why does mould keep coming back after I clean it?

Because something behind the surface is still wet. The usual culprits in Brisbane are an exhaust fan venting into the roof cavity instead of outside, a leaking shower on the other side of the wall, or a closed-in subfloor with no airflow. Treat the mould without fixing that and it returns within a season.

Is my balcony leak my problem or the body corporate's?

In most Queensland schemes the slab and the original membrane are common property and the tiles and finishes are yours, which makes it a shared repair. That’s why these jobs stall. We’re not lawyers, but we write the defect report with moisture readings and photographs that committees and owners both end up needing before anything moves.

Will insurance cover water damage from a leaking shower?

Usually not the shower itself, because gradual failure of waterproofing is excluded in most policies. Damage from a sudden burst pipe often is covered. The distinction is worth a lot of money and it turns on the cause of damage finding, which is part of what our inspection report documents.

How long is the bathroom out of action?

A shower seal takes three days and you can use it again 24 hours after we finish. A full renovation is three to four weeks with the room unusable, so if it’s your only bathroom, plan for that. We give you a day-by-day program at the start rather than a vague window.

What warranty do I get?

Ten years on waterproofing and shower seals, seven years on renovation workmanship, plus QBCC home warranty insurance on anything over $3,300 and the manufacturer’s warranty on tapware and fittings. You get the compliance certificates at handover, which is the paperwork that matters when you sell.
