Stafford Sleep & CPAP

Suite 6, 388 Stafford Rd, Stafford QLD 4053
Home sleep study, bulk billed · CPAP sold outright, no rental contracts
Stafford · Everton Park · Kedron · Chermside

If you snore and you are still exhausted at 3pm, stop guessing and get tested.

A home sleep study is bulk billed with a GP referral. You sleep in your own bed, we read the data, and a sleep physician reports on it. If you do need CPAP, you trial a machine for four weeks before you buy anything — and we sell them outright rather than locking you into a rental.

Sleep study bulk billed with a referral, or $295 without one. CPAP machines from $1,190 outright.
THE SHORT VERSION

How this clinic runs

Four facts about how a study and a CPAP trial actually run here. None of them is a claim about how your own sleep will turn out — nobody can promise you that.

2017

Testing and treating from the same Stafford rooms.

100%

Of studies scored by a sleep scientist and reported by a sleep physician.

4 weeks

Trial on a machine before you spend a cent on one.

$0

Rental fees. Every machine is sold outright, never rented.

Do you actually need a sleep study?

Two or more of these, or a partner who has watched you stop breathing, is enough to warrant a referral. Snoring alone is not — plenty of people snore without apnoea.

While you’re asleep

What a partner in the next room might notice.

During the day

What it costs you by mid-afternoon.

Beyond tiredness

Signs that show up outside sleep itself.

IF THIS IS YOU

Falling asleep at the wheel? Treat it as urgent.

Untreated moderate to severe sleep apnoea multiplies crash risk, and in Queensland it is a condition you are legally required to disclose to Transport and Main Roads if you hold a commercial licence. Ring us and say so — we hold study kits back for exactly this.

HOW IT WORKS

Start to finish, about five weeks

Most of that five weeks is the four-week machine trial — the referral and the study itself usually take about a week.

WEEK 1

GP referral

Ask for a sleep study referral. Most people who snore and are tired meet the Medicare criteria.

WEEK 1

Kit collected

A twenty-minute appointment to fit it and show you how it works, or we post it to you anywhere in Queensland.

WEEK 2

You sleep at home

One night in your own bed. Return the kit the next morning and the data downloads on the spot.

WEEK 2

Physician report

Scored by a sleep scientist, reported by a sleep physician, explained to you in a thirty-minute appointment.

WEEKS 3–6

Trial, then decide

Four weeks on a trial machine with two reviews. Only then do you buy anything, if you buy at all.

THE RENTAL TRAP

$45 a week sounds reasonable until you add it up

Weekly CPAP rental is the standard model in this industry because it reads as affordable. We sell outright from $1,190 with a four-week trial first, and we will service a machine you bought somewhere else without making it awkward. Figures below assume a common market rental rate of $45 a week against a mid-range auto-adjusting machine bought here at $1,690, plus one mask a year.

3 months

Rented: $585 over the quarter. Bought here: $1,690 once, and it is yours from day one.

1 year

Rented: $2,340 for the year. Bought here: $1,690 total — already less than a year of rent.

2 years

Rented: $4,680 so far. Bought here: $1,870, including one mask replacement.

3 years

Rented: $7,020, and you still do not own it. Bought here: $1,960, and you do.

NOT ONLY CPAP

CPAP is not the only option we discuss

We go through all of these at your results appointment, not only with people who have already tried a machine. A clinic whose income depends on selling machines will rarely mention them.

Weight loss

Often discussed alongside other options where weight is a contributing factor. We do not provide weight-loss treatment directly — your GP or a dietitian can advise, and we compare notes with them where it helps your case.

Mandibular advancement splint

A dental device, fitted by a dentist, worn at night to hold the jaw forward. Suits mild to moderate apnoea and travels far more easily than a machine.

Positional therapy

If your study shows your events cluster when you sleep on your back, a positional device may be all that is needed — confirmed from your own results, not assumed.

Surgical referral

Large tonsils, nasal obstruction or specific jaw anatomy can be addressed surgically. Where the anatomy is the driver, we refer you to an ENT specialist.

Who you'll deal with

Three people, and you will likely deal with more than one of them — the physician reports your study, the scientist sets up your machine, the therapist fits your mask.

QUESTIONS

Questions we get daily

The things people ask on the phone before they book.

Is a home study as good as a hospital one?

For suspected obstructive sleep apnoea in an otherwise healthy adult — yes, and there is good evidence behind that. A home study measures breathing, oxygen, effort, snoring and position in your own bed with your own routine. In-laboratory studies with full EEG are needed for suspected narcolepsy, complex central apnoea, seizure-related events, or when a home study is inconclusive. We refer those to a hospital lab rather than pretending a home kit can do it.

Why not just rent a CPAP machine?

Because $45 a week is $2,340 a year and $7,020 over three years, for a machine you never own and cannot take to another provider. Bought outright here, a mid-range auto-adjusting machine is $1,690 and yours from day one. We do offer interest-free payments over six or twelve months, which achieves the affordability without the rental.

What if I cannot tolerate CPAP?

Most intolerance is a mask or pressure-setting problem, fixable in a twenty-minute appointment — which is exactly what the trial period and its two review appointments are for. If it genuinely does not work for you, we will say so rather than leave you to persist with it, and there are alternatives to discuss: a mandibular advancement splint, positional therapy, weight loss, or an ENT surgical opinion.

Does Medicare pay for a CPAP machine?

No, not for adults in Queensland outside specific hospital and concession schemes. Medicare covers the sleep study and specialist consultations; the machine and masks are out of pocket. Most top-level private extras policies rebate $500 to $1,000 on a machine once every five years, and we check your entitlement before you choose one. Pension and Health Care Card holders get $200 off here, and we keep two reconditioned machines at $590 for genuine hardship.

Do I have to tell the transport department?

If you hold a commercial or heavy vehicle licence, untreated moderate to severe sleep apnoea is a reportable medical condition in Queensland and you have a legal obligation to disclose it. That is not a reason to avoid testing. We do the compliance reporting and turn it around in three business days.
