Every Plantation We Visit, Rated the Same Way

Same six criteria applied to every plantation, from harvest to elephant rides.

What We Cover

Six Plantations, Same Six Criteria

We visited all six working plantations in Ponda between January and April, walking the same route a paying guest would. Harvest stage, elephant rides, lunch quality and crowd size — scored the same way, every time, so the numbers compare directly.

Harvest Calendar by Spice

Pepper vines flower in June and fruit by December; cardamom is picked October through February; vanilla is hand-pollinated in February and cured for months after. We list which spice is actually being harvested the week you visit, not just what’s planted.

The Process

How We Flag a Tour

Two of the six plantations still offer elephant rides; we mark them clearly on the comparison table and explain why we don’t send readers there ourselves.

Lunch, Checked Not Assumed

Three of the six include a Goan thali in the ticket price — around ₹450, fish curry rice, four vegetable sides and a sweet. Two only serve tea and biscuits despite what the brochure implies. We tried the thali at all three ourselves.
