FEES & FUNDING
$131.05 a session with a Medicare plan. Here’s the arithmetic.
Cost is the most common reason people put off therapy for years, so it belongs on the front page rather than behind an enquiry form.
Price list
Fees are the same whether you pay privately or claim on Medicare. We are not affiliated with any private health fund, so nobody outside this practice has a say in how many sessions you get.
First session
Sixty minutes, assessment and planning.
Standard session
Fifty minutes, registered psychologist.
Standard session, clinical psychologist
Fifty minutes, endorsed clinical psychologist.
Telehealth session
Video or phone, same rebate applies.
Bulk-billed place
Health Care Card, pension or genuine hardship.
Report or letter, on request
Insurer, employer or specialist correspondence.
Late cancellation, inside 24 hours
Half fee; full fee on the day. Not rebatable.
Rebate amounts are current Medicare Better Access items and require a referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP or psychiatrist. Fees last reviewed July 2026.
Getting the Medicare plan
Four steps, and the whole thing runs through your own GP.
Book a long appointment with your GP
Say it is for a mental health plan when you book, so they allocate enough time. A standard fifteen-minute consult is not long enough.
You get a plan and a referral
A document the GP completes with you. It entitles you to ten rebated psychology sessions a calendar year. Most GPs bulk bill the appointment.
Bring both to your first session
The referral must name a psychologist or the practice. Without it we cannot claim the rebate, and the full $230 applies.
Review at session six
You go back to your GP for a short review before the last four sessions are released. Diarise it — people forget, and the gap in treatment is avoidable.
HOW PEOPLE PAY
Four ways to fund it
Bulk-billed places
Four sessions a week are held at no cost for people on a Health Care Card, a pension, or in genuine hardship. You do not need to prove hardship or explain your finances — say you need one and reception will find the next available.
Private health
Extras cover rebates psychology, typically $60 to $100 a session with an annual cap. You cannot claim Medicare and private health for the same session; we will check which is better for you.
Other funding we accept
NDIS self-managed and plan-managed, WorkCover Queensland, DVA, Open Arms for veterans and families, employer EAP referrals, and Victims of Crime assistance through Queensland Government.
If none of this works financially
Ring anyway. There are free services in Brisbane that are genuinely good — headspace for under-25s, community health, and some university clinics with supervised provisional psychologists. Reception keeps a current list.
Ask your GP about a Mental Health Treatment Plan first
It is the single biggest lever on the cost of therapy. We will help you work out the arithmetic over the phone before you book anything.
