Qualifications, stated properly
“Skin cancer doctor” is not a protected title in Australia. Anyone with a medical degree may open a skin clinic, which is why the actual post-graduate qualifications are listed below rather than summarised as “special interest in skin”.
Who you will see
Every check and every procedure is done by one of our two doctors, assisted by our practice nurse.
Dr Elise Vandermeer
Elise practised general medicine on the Sunshine Coast for nine years before completing a Master of Medicine in skin cancer at the University of Queensland. She opened this clinic because the local alternative was a fifteen-minute GP appointment or a six-month dermatology wait. She performs most of the diagnostic dermoscopy and the melanoma excisions.
- MBBS, University of Queensland
- FRACGP
- Master of Medicine (Skin Cancer), UQ
- Skin Cancer College Australasia
Dr Samir Chaudhry
Samir carries the surgical list — the flaps, grafts and awkward facial repairs that most skin clinics send to a plastic surgeon. He holds an advanced certificate in dermatological surgery and operates three days a week. He is also the doctor who will tell you plainly when a defect genuinely does warrant a specialist repair.
- MBBS, Monash University
- FRACGP
- Advanced Certificate in Dermatological Surgery
- Skin Cancer College Australasia
Kate Lonsdale
Kate assists in every procedure, manages the wound care afterwards, and runs the recall system that brings people back at the right interval. The three-day pathology turnaround this clinic publishes is largely her doing — she chases every result rather than waiting for it to arrive.
- Registered Nurse
- Wound management certification
- Eleven years in procedural practice
