First consultation, scans and a written plan — no charge
Waterworks Rd, Ashgrove · since 2011

You’ll know the full cost and an estimated finish date before you agree to anything.

The first appointment is free and it is a real one — scans, photographs, and a written plan with one total figure on it. Not a deposit request and a vague range. Read it at home, compare it to anyone else in Brisbane, then decide.

THE SHORT VERSION

How this practice runs

Four facts about how a consultation and a case are run here — not a claim about how any individual case will turn out. Nobody can promise you a finish date before they have actually looked in your mouth.

YOUR OPTIONS

Three ways to straighten teeth, compared honestly

All three are appliances a registered specialist fits and reviews in person. The right one depends on your case, not on which is fashionable.

Clear aligners — most requested

$6,900

Removable, nearly invisible, changed at home every week or two. Typically 14–20 months, and barely visible while you wear them.

Ceramic braces — discreet & fixed

$7,400

Tooth-coloured brackets that stay on and take the wearing discipline out of your hands. Typically 16–24 months, slightly visible.

Metal braces — best value

$6,200

The most efficient appliance there is, and the least expensive. Typically 15–22 months, and visible.

YOUR YEAR, MAPPED OUT

Five appointments you can plan around

Every visit is booked at the end of the one before it, so you are never ringing to chase a slot.

01

Free consultation, 45 minutes

Scans, photographs and x-rays. You are told which appliances suit your case, how long it will take and what the total is — in writing, before you agree to anything.

02

Fitting appointment

Ninety minutes. Braces bonded or your first aligners fitted, with a walk-through of what the first fortnight feels like.

03

Reviews every 6–8 weeks

Twenty minutes each. Booked at the end of the previous visit, so the whole treatment is in your calendar from the start.

04

Removal and final scans

Appliances off, teeth polished, retainers scanned and made in our own lab — usually the same week.

05

Two years of retainer checks

Included in the treatment fee. Retainers protect the result, so we keep reviewing them at no extra cost.

QUESTIONS

Questions worth asking anyone

The ones that separate a specialist practice from a general dentist offering braces.

What makes a specialist orthodontist different from a dentist offering braces?

Three additional years of full-time university training after the dental degree, spent entirely on tooth movement, and registration as a specialist with the Dental Board of Australia. Any dentist may legally offer braces or aligners in Australia — the phrase to look for is “registered specialist”.

Are mail-order aligners a reasonable alternative?

For a small number of very mild cases, yes. The problem is that nobody examines your gums, bone level or bite before the trays are made, and nobody is watching while the teeth move. We see cases each year that need correcting afterwards, and that correction costs more than treating it properly the first time.

How much will my health fund pay?

Most extras policies carry a separate lifetime orthodontic limit, commonly $1,200 to $3,000, released in annual instalments. We give you the item numbers and a claim schedule at the start so you can draw the maximum across the treatment years.

Will it hurt?

The first three or four days after fitting are the worst of it — tender to bite on rather than sharply painful, and paracetamol handles it. After an adjustment it is usually a day.

What happens if the treatment runs longer than quoted?

Nothing changes on your invoice. The fee is fixed at the consultation and it covers the case through to the retainers, however long that takes.
