Why we brew

Beer is better forty feet from the tank.

Ours goes from the conditioning tank to the taps in the next room, and into cans we fill on site the same week you drink them.

On tap · Thursday to Sunday

Five regulars. One monthly stranger.

The core five always on

Ironbark Pale

5.0%ABV

The first beer we ever brewed. Citrus up front, biscuit underneath.

Smokebox Porter

5.8%ABV

Dark, quiet and slightly smoked, like the chain-makers’ shed it is brewed in.

Ropewalk IPA

6.2%ABV

The loud one. Double dry-hopped, unapologetically bitter.

Yardhouse Lager

4.6%ABV

The six-week slow one.

Little Anvil

3.5%ABV

The table beer for long afternoons.

Small batch changes monthly

Whatever the board says

A new small batch every month, and it never comes back.

Every ABV is on the board and the allergen sheet lives at the bar. Malt, wheat and oats vary by recipe, so ask before you order.

The brewery

It started with a fifty-litre kettle and a garage door open to the street.

Neighbours kept wandering in to ask what the smell was. Eventually we put out a bench, then a second one, then a licence. The kit is two hundred times bigger now, but the door is still open.

What the regulars say

Sample notes, not live reviews

The porter alone is worth the trip, but it’s the place. You’re drinking next to the tank it came out of.
Dana W., Northgate
Taproom regular since 2019
Did the Saturday tour for a birthday. The brewer talked us through the mash like we were family, then poured like it too.

Came for a tour, stayed for the IPA
I check the small-batch board before I check anything else. Every month there’s a reason to come back.
