Today, not tomorrow

When to ring us today

Animals hide illness well. Any of these is worth a phone call rather than a wait-and-see.

Straining in the litter tray

A male cat that cannot urinate is an emergency within hours.

A swollen, hard abdomen

Especially a large-breed dog after eating. Bloat can turn critical within hours.

Not eating for 24 hours

A cat that skips two meals is telling you something.

Vomiting repeatedly

Once is often nothing. Five times, or with lethargy, needs a vet.

Limping that will not settle

Still there after 48 hours, or they will not put the leg down.

Sudden behaviour change

Hiding, aggression or restlessness in a settled animal is usually pain.

Demo reviewCat owner

“Same vet every visit. It makes a nervous dog and a nervous owner a lot calmer.”

Vet bills are frightening. Not knowing is worse.

Pets vary, so we publish a range and the things that move it: weight, age, and what we find once your pet is asleep.

Questions

Questions we get every week

The things people ask on the phone before they book.

There is no Medicare for animals. A dental under anaesthetic involves a vet, a monitoring nurse, x-rays, drugs and an hour of theatre time. We tell you the number before you commit.

Some vaccines give three years of protection and we space them accordingly. The annual examination is the part not worth skipping.

Sometimes, and our nurses are good at it. For a male cat straining to urinate, bloat, difficulty breathing, a seizure or a suspected snake bite, come in, or go to Cleveland if we are closed.

Say so early. There is nearly always a second option, such as a staged approach. We also offer VetPay for larger bills.

Most people know before they are ready to say it. We give you honest information, with no consult fee on that conversation or a euthanasia appointment.
