Storm & emergency work

Tree down? Read this, then call.

Two hours is our target response through storm season. What you do in the first ten minutes matters more.

Before we get there

Assume every wire is live

If the tree is touching or near power lines, stay at least eight metres away, keep everyone else away, and ring Energex on 13 19 62 first. We cannot touch it until the network has made it safe — nobody legitimate can.

Get out from under it, and leave it alone

A limb hung up in a canopy or a partly fallen trunk is holding stored tension. Cutting into it without knowing where that load goes is how people are killed. Rope nothing, cut nothing.

Photograph it from a safe distance, then call

Photos before anything is moved are what your insurer will want. Then ring us — tell us the suburb, what it’s landed on, and whether wires are involved, and we’ll give you an arrival window.

What storm work costs

Told to you on the phone before we dispatch. We don’t price by how bad your night is going.
Cutting clear enough to remove the immediate danger and restore access. Full removal booked for daylight.
Common questions

Who pays when it's the neighbour's tree?

In Queensland it generally comes down to whether the tree’s owner knew it was a risk and didn’t act. A healthy tree brought down by a severe storm is usually treated as an act of nature, and each owner claims on their own insurance for damage on their own land. Where it gets interesting is a tree with visible defects the owner had been told about. That’s why a written arborist assessment matters on both sides of the fence — we write them for people worried about a neighbour’s tree, and for owners who want to show theirs was sound.
