Will your boiler make it to Christmas?

Eight things we check first on every breakdown. If more than two sound like your house, it is worth a look before the cold comes.

The eight

What we check first, in order

None of these on its own means a new boiler. Three or four together usually means a diagnosis is overdue.

It bangs, kettles or whistles when the heating comes on.

The pressure drops and you have topped it up more than twice this year.

Radiators are cold at the bottom or need bleeding repeatedly.

Hot water runs cold partway through a shower.

It locks out and needs resetting to fire again.

It has not been serviced in more than eighteen months.

It is over twelve years old and you do not know its history.

The flame is yellow, not blue, or there is staining round the case.

Want the full eight, and what each one actually means?

We will email the check as a one-page sheet, plus what we would look at first and roughly what each fault costs to put right.
